What Is Emergency Preparedness?
Emergency preparedness is a well-known concept in protecting workers' safety and health. Anticipating and planning UCR's campus emergency response minimizes possible injuries and property damage during a campus-wide emergency and eases the return to normal campus operations.
Preparedness Checklist
- Sign up for Emergency Alert Notification make sure to update your contact information if it changes.
- Make or purchasean Emergency Supply Kit.
- Make an Emergency Plan with your family and/or friends in case you need to leave campus.
- Review the campus Emergency Action Plan.
- Learn relevant building evacuation routes, fire alarm pull-station locations, fire extinguisher locations, and assembly areas in the event of an emergency for buildings you are in most often.
- Know evacuation routes and assembly areas for the buildings you are in most frequently. Be prepared to direct students to assembly areas in the event of an emergency.
Your Role During An Emergency
- Report an emergency or suspicious activity to UCRPD by calling 9-1-1 or 951-827-5222
- Follow directions given by UCR faculty and staff.
- Check-in with your RA and/or professor (if you are in class at the time of the emergency).
- Follow directions given by first responders.
- Check-in with your parents and family members to let them know you're ok.
Preparedness Checklist
- Emphasize the importance of having an Emergency Supply Kit - lead by example and make or purchasean Emergency Supply Kit for your home.
- Make an Emergency Plan with your children/family members.
- Create several methods by which you can contact your children (e.g. phone, email, social media, etc.).

Encourage your children to follow campus safety rules.
Your Role During An Emergency
- Do not panic if you cannot reach your child. Following a large-scale emergency, cell phones do not usually work.
- Use resources made available by UCR in order to obtain new, up-to-date, information.
This will include the UCR Police Facebook page, UCRSAFE app or text UCRPARENT to 67283. - Unless directed to do so, do not come to campus during an emergency as additional individuals and traffic on campus will inhibit response efforts.

Your Role During An Emergency

- Facilitate the appropriate response indicated by UCRSAFE (e.g., Evacuation, Secure-In-Place, Shelter-In-Place).
- Provide assistance to injured/disabled individuals when possible.
- Check-in with department head/supervisor. Report any missing personnel.
- Follow directions given by first responders.
